Head in the clouds

Above Sierra Nevada

One of the things I like in flight is to look out the window to watch the clouds pass, and I always try to get a window seat. When I look around to see if anyone else is mesmerized by the view out the window, it seems the only other cloud-appreciators are young children. I confess to a childish feeling of dread at having the privilege of flying above the clouds, a place people once considered the exclusive domain of the gods.

The clouds in the image above were boiling over the Sierra Nevadas when I returned to San Francisco l ‘other day. Below, Mount Diablo rises in relief against a misty corduroy landscape.
